A Guest Book

Little Messages for the Bride and Groom

I’ve been looking for a guest book for our wedding for quite a while. I was after something really different and while wandering around looking for table name stands, I managed to find the perfect one!

guest book

It’s made from wood and has about 80 pages inside. It’s actually really heavy but I really liked it.

English Wedding

Recent Posts

As regular readers will know, I also post on English Wedding blog. I was really excited to be asked to be a Blogger Bride, but with little progress in the wedding, I haven’t had a lot to blog about.

Recently, with some more updates, I’ve been able to blog a little bit more. Sometimes I post the same as I’ve posted on my blog, but other times I write something a bit different.

If you would like to see my English Wedding posts, they are:

As you can see, I thought of very imaginative post titles! lol

The lady who runs the website, Claire, has really fantastic real bride stories, stunning photos and amazing inspiration.  It’s my favourite blog!

For the Grooms

Treat Your Bride

This is a blog post for the lads. Ladies, if you’d like to pop off and make a cup of tea, sit your h2b down in front of the computer and we’ll just have a quiet chat.

Has she gone? Right chaps, I know w2b has been a bit crazy recently, she’s been a bit stressed about the wedding. I know you’ve been doing your best to be patient and humour her but I think it’s important we do something nice for her.

Remember, she is working really hard to give you and your family and friends a beautiful wedding so doing something really special to make her smile would be nice.

Mothers-in-Law

Communicate with Your Mother-in-Law

You might feel a bit shy around your Mother-of-the-Bridemother-in-law, or you may be very lucky and she’s like a second mother!

However, as wedding fever reaches it’s highest pitch it can be easy to forget to include your MIL.

To stay on her good side, as you marry her little boy, follow the tips below:

Lots of Updates

Whenever you get a quiet moment, give your MIL a quick ring to know what’s happening with the wedding plans Bride and Motherand let her know what’s going to be organised next.

If you don’t want to call, send her a text!

She’s going to be thinking about the day as much as your mother is so try to keep in touch with her.

Get Together

Start inviting your MIL out on shopping trips with your mum to buy your dress. Buying the wedding dress is serious bonding time and you could stop for a quick bite to eat along the way (and a glass of wine!).

Happy Hens

Pink penises and getting blind drunk isn’t everyone’s idea of a good time so try to include your MIL in something a bit more tame in your hen do.

Are you going out for a meal before hand? Are you doing some fun, non-alcoholic activities? Invite your mother-in-law!

Cupcakes

Wedding Cakes Cup Cakes

I don’t often post about food but a reader has asked for a blog post about cupcakes, so here it is!

Wedding cakes are costing anything from £150 – £450 and more! It all depends on the complexity of the design you want.

This post is full of photos of different wedding cakes for you to have a look to see a possible design you may like. If you see a design you like but in the wrong colours, still copy the picture and simply ask your cake maker to change the colours.

A Change of Name

What Will You Do?

Traditionally, the European/Christian bride will take signingthe groom’s name once they are married because a dowry has been paid and she is joining his family.

In China, a bride keeps her own family name as, although she is married and a dowry has been paid, she is still part of her original family.

In Islamic weddings, brides keep their own names as many surnames aren’t family names but specially chosen names.

But what will you do?

In the 21st Century the choice is yours and there are many options available to the modern bride.

  • Take his namesigning-the-register
  • Keep your own names
  • The groom could take the brides name
  • Double barrelled with a hyphen
  • Double barrelled without the hyphen
  • A combination of the two names
(eg. Wong + Cuthbert = Wongbert)

Many brides keep their own names, but then you have the tough choice of who’s name do the children take?

As a teacher, it’s a lot less confusing for us if the entire family have the same name, but what if you’re a lady who likes her name? What if your groom likes his name?

My h2b is a traditional guy and there would be no signing-the-register (1)option of him changing his name. We have toyed with the Wongbert idea, and even Cuthbert-Wong (although he thinks it should be Wong-Cuthbert!).

Double barrelled names are becoming more and more popular. When I was little, double barrelled names were only for the rich but more children in my classes through the years have double barrelled names.

A Whole New Name

A trend that is growing in popularity is making an entirely new name.

You could make it a combination of the two names, such as Smones or Joith or even put all the letters of the names in a bag and create an entirely new name by just picking out the letters.

Your Decisionistockphoto_7066054-bride-and-groom-signing-wedding-register

In the end, names are just names and they don’t define who we are. If you and your groom both like your names, why go through the legal expense of changing them? Keeping your own surname doesn’t mean you love him any less than if you took his name. Do what makes you feel comfortable!

My Decision

I have been looking forward to being Mrs Wong for the last few years! I’m a traditional gal and I would love to take his name!  However, I really believe that brides should make their own decisions about their names and should discuss it with their h2b’s.

English Wedding

I’m a Blogger Bride!

I am very pleased to announce that I’m now an English Wedding blogger bride!  English-Wedding-blogger-bride

Basically, what’s going to happen is that once or twice a week I send a blog post to English Wedding about what’s been happening this week and all sorts of things.

I’m really quite excited about having my humble thoughts appearing on such a big website. I’ve been a fan of English Wedding since I started following them on Twitter. My favourite section is the Real Wedding section because of knowing a bride was thinking the same as me!

And now I’m contributing!

I’ve already posted my first blog post about where I’m at currently with my planning, what I’ve already booked and what I need to get sorted out. I have my next blog all planned out and I’m really looking forward to contributing!
