A Guest Book

Little Messages for the Bride and Groom

I’ve been looking for a guest book for our wedding for quite a while. I was after something really different and while wandering around looking for table name stands, I managed to find the perfect one!

guest book

It’s made from wood and has about 80 pages inside. It’s actually really heavy but I really liked it.

For the Grooms

Treat Your Bride

This is a blog post for the lads. Ladies, if you’d like to pop off and make a cup of tea, sit your h2b down in front of the computer and we’ll just have a quiet chat.

Has she gone? Right chaps, I know w2b has been a bit crazy recently, she’s been a bit stressed about the wedding. I know you’ve been doing your best to be patient and humour her but I think it’s important we do something nice for her.

Remember, she is working really hard to give you and your family and friends a beautiful wedding so doing something really special to make her smile would be nice.

Wedding Speech Jokes

Having a Giggle

A lot of men find the wedding speech1speech the most nerve wracking part of a wedding. To stand up in front of over 100 people and speak from your heart is a difficult thing to do, and three of the men in your life will do just that on your wedding day.

To help them out a bit, I’ve collected some one line jokes from presentation magazine.com, confetti.co.uk, iamstaggered.com and wedding speech builder.com.

Openers

The Groom: Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen - First, I'd like to inform you that my bride has vetted this speech, so if you consider any of the material inappropriate, it's her fault. (wedding speech builder)

Duties

Who Does What?

Being asked to be a bridesmaid or best man is IMG_7155fantastic! It means you’ll get a posh dress or a swish suit and will feature in your friend’s wedding! You’ll be able to share all their happiness and help them celebrate their special day!

But what do you actually have to do?

Cupcakes

Wedding Cakes Cup Cakes

I don’t often post about food but a reader has asked for a blog post about cupcakes, so here it is!

Wedding cakes are costing anything from £150 – £450 and more! It all depends on the complexity of the design you want.

This post is full of photos of different wedding cakes for you to have a look to see a possible design you may like. If you see a design you like but in the wrong colours, still copy the picture and simply ask your cake maker to change the colours.

A Change of Name

What Will You Do?

Traditionally, the European/Christian bride will take signingthe groom’s name once they are married because a dowry has been paid and she is joining his family.

In China, a bride keeps her own family name as, although she is married and a dowry has been paid, she is still part of her original family.

In Islamic weddings, brides keep their own names as many surnames aren’t family names but specially chosen names.

But what will you do?

In the 21st Century the choice is yours and there are many options available to the modern bride.

  • Take his namesigning-the-register
  • Keep your own names
  • The groom could take the brides name
  • Double barrelled with a hyphen
  • Double barrelled without the hyphen
  • A combination of the two names
(eg. Wong + Cuthbert = Wongbert)

Many brides keep their own names, but then you have the tough choice of who’s name do the children take?

As a teacher, it’s a lot less confusing for us if the entire family have the same name, but what if you’re a lady who likes her name? What if your groom likes his name?

My h2b is a traditional guy and there would be no signing-the-register (1)option of him changing his name. We have toyed with the Wongbert idea, and even Cuthbert-Wong (although he thinks it should be Wong-Cuthbert!).

Double barrelled names are becoming more and more popular. When I was little, double barrelled names were only for the rich but more children in my classes through the years have double barrelled names.

A Whole New Name

A trend that is growing in popularity is making an entirely new name.

You could make it a combination of the two names, such as Smones or Joith or even put all the letters of the names in a bag and create an entirely new name by just picking out the letters.

Your Decisionistockphoto_7066054-bride-and-groom-signing-wedding-register

In the end, names are just names and they don’t define who we are. If you and your groom both like your names, why go through the legal expense of changing them? Keeping your own surname doesn’t mean you love him any less than if you took his name. Do what makes you feel comfortable!

My Decision

I have been looking forward to being Mrs Wong for the last few years! I’m a traditional gal and I would love to take his name!  However, I really believe that brides should make their own decisions about their names and should discuss it with their h2b’s.

Men in Suits

The Best Man’s Fitting

Days to go: 326

We have had the best man fitted for his suit. He looked fairly fantastic and it was quite emotional.

It is actually a bit early to have any of the gents fitted for suits for a wedding, however my h2b’s best man doesn’t live in the UK so we decided to pop over to the suit hire place to get measured.

I could imagine my h2b and the best man standing at the front of the church, dressed in their suits, waiting for me to walk down the aisle. It was fairly emotional when my dad and h2b were choosing the style of suits they wanted, but now The Wedding is less than a year away!

There are a few moments during The Day that I think I want to remember for the rest of my life, and seeing h2b and best man at the front of the church, looking nervous. I know I’ll be nervous too!

In a discussion with Best man about The Wedding, he said he wouldn’t let h2b turn around and look until I was standing next to him at the front. However, I’ll be hoping that h2b does turn around.

I’m interested to know what other people think: Should the groom turn to look at the bride or should he be eyes front?

Personally, I enjoy that moment when grooms turn around to look at his approaching bride. I love how the look of nerves on his face rises into a smile for a moment as he sees his beautiful bride. It’s nice that he takes in the whole look of the dress and the effect.

Please let me know what you think, either leaving a comment here, a Twitter comment or a message on Facebook.
